  • “We have seen a very meaningful increase in gas prices, and my guess is that next month we’ll see further evidence of an impact on U.S. inflation of Putin’s war on Ukraine,” Yellen said.
  • The Treasury secretary’s comments came just hours after the Labor Department said consumer prices rose 7.9% in February, the fastest pace since 1982.

I guess the statements about inflation being a temporary thing have expired.

“…New figures from Britain raise bright red flags about the direction of Covid in wealthy countries that used mRNA and DNA shots to attempt to defeat the coronavirus last year.

Hospitalizations and deaths remain stubbornly high and overwhelmingly occur in vaccinated people. In February, 90 percent of the 1,000 Britons who died each week of Covid were vaccinated.

New infections are not only far higher than they were before the Omicron variant emerged, they are rising again after a brief fall in February. And even boosters appear to offer no protection against hospitalizations in younger people.

British data are crucial both because Britain vaccinated and boosted early and because its datasets are far more complete and less politicized than those in the United States.

Day by day, week by week, the figures are becoming more worrisome. They hint that mRNA and DNA shots may have slowed if not completely halted the natural progression to herd immunity that occurred in earlier respiratory virus epidemics.

In fact, Britain now reports 99 percent of adults have antibodies to Covid, mostly as the result of vaccination. That level is far higher than epidemiologists believed would be necessary to support herd immunity. Yet Covid infections, hospitalizations, and deaths continue unabated. Almost 12,000 Britons are now hospitalized with Covid, more than at this time last year.

The most stunning chart is this one. Each week the British government releases a “surveillance report” which includes Covid deaths by vaccine status.

DCCC advice to Dems for the midterms: Don’t ‘sound like a jerk’

“…House Democrats are holding a retreat in Philadelphia today, trying to come to an agreement on how best to sell themselves to voters in the coming midterm election. NBC News reports that rather than uniting Democrats behind a common plan, the meeting seemed to emphasize their disagreements. Progressives think their best hope is to pass the Franken-BBB bill so they’ll have something to run on. Moderates think they just need to stop talking like preachy progressives.

Asked whether Democrats need to pass a Build Back Better-like bill to keep the majority, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, D-N.Y., the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, or DCCC, replied: “No.”…

Maloney’s advice? “Talk like real people.” Don’t “sound like a jerk.” And “be a human being in relation to your voters.” Or put more simply: Be “real people.”

It may not sound like Maloney is being very pointed but in context sounding “like a jerk” is a reference to some recent DCCC polling which found that “battleground voters think the party is ‘preachy,’ ‘judgmental’ and ‘focused on culture wars.’” So sounding like a jerk means sounding like a squad progressive. One squad-adjacent progressive seemed to agree with Maloney:

“We need visionary, historic leadership and new conversations that are smart and engaging with the entire American people instead of the dumbing down [of issues], and the way we’re framing these issues is worrisome,” said Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.). “We’ve got to trust the American people to be able to receive and engage in and guide us on what needs to be done.”

That actually sounds like a smart approach even if it is also an attempt by a far left congressman to hide a far left agenda…”

Hillary Vows To Stop Importing Dossiers From Russia

“…Beloved feminist icon and 2024 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has announced she will be joining efforts to halt Russian aggression. Starting this week, she has promised to stop importing dossiers from Russia.

Sources in Russia say this will cost the Russian economy over 3,000 jobs, which were previously filled with people working full-time writing phony dossiers for Hillary Clinton. In a statement, President Putin said he was sad to see his close, longtime relationship with Clinton going south. “I thought that big red reset button meant something to you!” he said.

For the time being, the Clintons have committed to buying their disinformation only from domestic sources like The Washington Post.
