- The South Carolina House of Representatives passed the ‘Save Women’s Sports Bill’ 82-28 on Tuesday
- Democrats proposed 1,000 amendments to the bill, but only one passed, which would allow girl’s wrestling teams in high schools
- If the bill passes in the state Senate, it will require athletes to compete as the gender they are assigned to at birth, not the gender they identify as
- Many stated tried to pass bills banning transgender athletes in 2021, as the topic gained traction after UPenn swimmer Lia Thomas, 22, made headlines
- If the bill passes, South Carolina will join the dozen other states with similar legislation
- The NCAA recently said it would bar states with anti-trans laws from hosting championships
- Governor Henry McMaster said the organization ‘ought to mind their own business’
