🧵1.The law firm of Schumer, McConnell, McCarthy, & Jeffries (“The Firm”) has learned that members of Congress (and voters) don’t like “omnibus” spending bills—that is, legislative proposals that fund all of the functions of the federal government in a single, consolidated bill.
2.This presents a challenge for The Firm, which has for years used omnibus spending bills to manipulate the legislative process. Before we address The Firm’s latest challenge and how it’s responding, let’s first review a few of the basic dynamics at play here.
3. An omnibus spending bill is typically written by The Firm in secret, with assistance from a few “appropriators” (members of the House and Senate spending or “appropriations” committees), hand-picked by The Firm.
4.Once written, an omnibus will first be seen by the public—and even by nearly every member of Congress—only days or hours before a scheduled shutdown.
5. The timing and sequence of a typical omnibus, carefully orchestrated by The Firm, all but ensures that it will pass without substantive changes once it becomes public, and that very few elected, federal lawmakers will have meaningful input in this highly secretive process.

- In Oakland estuary, “the threats of pirates have risen to a new level.”
- A few weeks ago, they were coming in off the water to steal dinghies, but now they’ve moved on to much larger boats.
- A man outfitted his 40 foot boat as a survival home, and thieves came into the marina and stole it. He spotted it stuck to nearby rocks and asked police to impound it. They said he needed to file a police report first.
- The police never came and his insurance company called to tell him the boat had been found trashed. “The stole GPS equipment, engine parts and three handguns.”
- Two other large boats were stolen the same week.
- Boat owners are now going armed.
- The city of Oakland only has one boat officer.
- Boat owners say they’re going to ban together to do whatever they must to protect themselves. “We don’t bother to call the police anymore. We’re going to handle it ourselves.”

“…Johnny Carson’s final show was watched by 55 million people. 55 million. Let’s put that number in perspective: President Biden’s State of the Union address was watched by 27.3 million viewers earlier this year — and Biden’s address was carried by 16 different networks in primetime. Carson was live at 11:30 p.m. on just one network, NBC.
So one could only imagine what Carson would think about what late-night has become, particularly during and after the Trump presidency: hyperpartisan, pious propaganda pushed by Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, Trevor Noah and a few others. It would be one thing if these hosts hit members on both sides of the political aisle, but that almost never happens. Conservatives are not only wrong on policy, audiences have been told on a nightly basis, but conservatives are bad people with nefarious intentions, all while Democrats are treated with reverence and portrayed as purveyors of truth.
“Sir, you attract more skinheads than free Rogaine,” Colbert once said of President Trump in a 2017 monologue. “You have more people marching against you than cancer. Madeline Brame — a crime victims advocate and mother of slain Army veteran Hason Correa — announced that she is running for Congress against incumbent Rep. Jamaal Bowman.
“…The mom of a slain Army veteran announced she has switched her allegiance to the Republican Party in a bid for Congress after slamming Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for giving her son’s killer “slaps on the wrist” while railing against the Democrats’ soft on crime policies.
Madeline Brame had become a crime victims advocate after her son, Hason Correa, a 35-year-old married father of three and a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, was fatally beaten and stabbed during a scuffle outside a Harlem apartment building in 2018.
The “lifelong Democrat” said she was initially confident that her her son’s murderers would be “brought to justice.”
“I was reassured by the District Attorney that everyone involved in Hason’s killing would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and was confident in what he said, until Alvin Bragg succeeded him,” she said Wednesday.
“Mr. Bragg set forth in attempting to give slaps on the wrist to all of my son’s killers. I fought him tooth and nail with everything I had, not because I was a well-connected investment banker, or someone with powerful friends in high places, but because I was Hason’s mother, grandmother to his children, and while nothing I do can ever bring him back I was not going to let Bragg or anyone else let my son’s killers walk…”

Paxton Impeachment Crumbles as Witness Admits Bribe Never Happened
“…The prosecution’s case in the impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton appears to have crumbled, with Andrew Wicker, former personal assistant to Paxton, admitting to defense attorney Tony Buzbee that photos of Paxton’s home indicate no renovations were made to the kitchen counter-tops nor to the kitchen cabinetry – one of the key claims against the Texas AG.
The alleged kitchen remodel was, according to Texas House lawmakers who approved 20 articles of impeachment against Paxton on May 27th, part of a quid pro quo scheme with real estate developer Nate Paul in exchange for Paxton helping him with a fraud lawsuit and preventing foreclosure on properties that he owned.
During Buzbee’s cross examination, however, Wicker was shown two sets of photos from 2020 and 2023 of the kitchen in the Paxton home. Buzbee asked Wicker, “We can see that there are no work done on the counter tops, can’t we?” With Wicker answering in the affirmative. The Paxton defense attorney followed up asking, “We can see that there was no work done in the cabinetry, can’t we?” The former personal assistant again responding in the affirmative…”
