Southwest Airlines cancels more flights. It’s a mystery with conflicting explanations.
More Southwest Airlines flight disruptions follow a weekend of cancellations
“…Southwest Airlines travelers are facing another day of disruptions. The carrier suspended hundreds of additional flights on Monday, after canceling and delaying thousands over the weekend — reportedly due to air traffic control issues and weather.
The airline has canceled more than 355 flights and delayed another 581 as of Monday morning, according to the online tracker FlightAware. Those canceled flights make up 10% of its schedule, as compared to 30% on Sunday…
…The reason for the disruption depends on who you ask.
Southwest blamed air traffic control issues and disruptive weather in a statement issued Sunday.
That same day, however, the Federal Aviation Administration said that no FAA air traffic staffing shortages had been reported since Friday.
“Flight delays & cancellations occurred for a few hours Friday PM due to widespread severe weather, military training, & limited staffing in one area of the Jacksonville en route center,” it tweeted. “Some airlines continue to experience scheduling challenges due to aircraft and crews being out of place.”
Henry Harteveldt, president and travel industry analyst at The Atmosphere Research Group, suggested two other possibilities to the Associated Press over the weekend. One is that Southwest scheduled more flights than it can handle, and operates a “point-to-point route network” that gives each delay a considerable ripple effect.
He also suggested that some pilots are calling in sick or refusing to work in opposition to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate that Southwest announced earlier this month. Southwest executives and employees have denied that, even though the theory has been embraced by prominent conservatives including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
The Southwest Airlines Pilots Association said on Sunday that “there are no work slowdowns or sickouts either related to the recent mandatory vaccine mandate or otherwise.”
It disputed the carrier’s characterization of the reason for the weekend’s disruptions…”

Newsom’s “woke-end.” Crackpot policies for America’s crackpot state from the country’s leading crackpot governor.
New Newsom Laws: No Gas Mowers, Free Menstrual Products, Require Gender-Neutral Toy Aisles
-
- Governor Gavin Newsom has signed several notable bills into law in recent days
- They include a bill that will see California public schools and colleges stocking their restrooms with free menstrual products
- In another ‘woke’ bill, large department stores must now display products including toys and toothbrushes in gender-neutral ways
- It does not completely outlaw traditional boys and girls sections at stores but says large stores must also have a gender neutral section to display
- On Saturday Newsom signed off on a new law banning gas-powered equipment that uses small off-road engines
- Gas-powered equipment includes generators, lawn equipment, pressure washers, chainsaws, weed trimmers and even golf carts
- Under the new law the machinery will have to be battery-powered or plug-in
- Newsom has also signed into law America’s first ethnic studies requirement for high school students after five years of debate
- Students who begin high school in 2026 must pass one semester of a class outlining the past and current struggles of America’s marginalized groups

Delusion informs Biden border policy
DHS Says Climate Change The Reason For Illegal Border Crossings
“…The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said extreme weather caused by climate change will lead to more illegal entries into the U.S. across the southern border.
Severe earthquakes, tsunamis, droughts, tropical storms and other weather events caused by climate change will lead to “border mass migrations” that could put additional stress on U.S. border patrol, the DHS warned in its Climate Action Plan released Thursday. Climate change has “deep implications” for the security of U.S. borders, the agency said…”

Remember too, that some indigenous peoples conquered neighboring tribes, enslaved the people, practiced ritual human sacrifice where they removed the still beating hearts of their victims, groomed specially selected children for child sacrifices, and in some cases practiced cannibalism. I have not seen calls to cancel the Aztecs, on the contrary, crackpot liberals in California are trying to get grade school children to chant Aztec religious rituals in class.

Vaccine effectiveness not all it’s cracked-up to be
Vaccine Effectiveness Hits as Low as Minus-66% in the Over-40s, New PHE Data Shows

“…The new Public Health England (PHE) Vaccine Surveillance report was released on Thursday, allowing us to update our estimates of unadjusted vaccine effectiveness from real-world data.
Oddly, the report appeared on a new webpage this week, but the old page didn’t include a note to let you know, so it took me a while to discover it had appeared and where it was.
Following last week’s ‘fact check‘ from Full Fatuous – ostensibly of my piece but with some words of admonition for PHE as well, particularly over the accuracy of the population data – a new note appeared in the report: “Interpretation of the case rates in vaccinated and unvaccinated population is particularly susceptible to changes in denominators and should be interpreted with extra caution.” So there you go. All estimates in this post are based on the data PHE uses and are valid insofar as that data is accurate.
As before, the data is just for a four-week period, which, given that the early part of the Delta surge was dominated by the unvaccinated and the latter part has seen infections rise in the vaccinated, seems to me a mistake. A fairer view would cover the whole Delta surge (as with the estimates I make from the data in the Technical Briefings), but in any case the report gives a snapshot of current relative infection rates…”
Bottom headline of the day
Democrats use Covid as a weapon of fear to manipulate voters. Media silent, complicit.
McAuliffe Spreads COVID Misinformation at Candidate Forum
“…Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe incorrectly stated on Thursday night that there were 1,142 children in Virginia’s intensive care unit beds, a gross overestimation of the virus’s current impact in the state.
“We in Virginia today, 1,142 children are in ICU beds,” McAuliffe stated during a roundtable discussion with local reporters. The statistic is a massive overestimation. Virginia Department of Health statistics show that there are a total of 443 people of all ages currently in ICU beds, a fraction of the figure McAuliffe put forth for children.
The state database shows the number of Virginians in ICU beds infected with COVID-19 has never come close to 1,142 since the first hospitalizations in March 2020—the peak of individuals hospitalized in the ICU with COVID-19 was on Jan. 13, when there were 587 cases. State records show that just 1,094 individuals younger than 19 years old have been hospitalized with COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Children, who rarely get seriously ill from the virus, have never made up a significant chunk of hospitalized individuals.
McAuliffe also said during the roundtable Virginia had “8,000 cases on Monday,” another exaggerated statistic. On Monday, Oct. 4, Virginia saw 1,220 “confirmed” cases and 864 “probable” cases, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
The state has never seen 8,000 confirmed cases in a day. According to the department, Virginia’s 7-day moving case average Peaked at 5,904 on Jan. 8, 2021—a number thousands short of McAuliffe’s case assessment.
McAuliffe’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment on his claims.
This is not the first time McAuliffe has falsely claimed there were 8,000 COVID-19 cases. Both during and after a September debate against Republican opponent Glenn Youngkin, McAuliffe said the state “had 8,000 cases yesterday.” On Sept. 27—the day before the debate—the department reported 1,799 “confirmed” cases and 1,117 “probable” cases. The day after, the department reported 1,723 “confirmed” cases and 988 “probable” cases.
McAuliffe used the inflated statistics during the roundtable to advocate for extreme COVID-19 mitigation efforts such as mask requirements and vaccine mandates.
McAuliffe also falsely called his Republican opponent, Glenn Youngkin, an “anti-vaxxer.” While Youngkin opposes state-imposed mask requirements and vaccine mandates, he has received the vaccine and aired ads urging all Virginians to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Thirteen, or 0.09 percent, of Virginia’s 13,075 deaths attributed to COVID-19 were of individuals younger than 19 years old…”
Since Trump’s election in 2016, many ruling government elites have been shown to be weak, petty, and cowardly bureaucrats. Bad at their jobs and peeved that they have been exposed.
The Appalling Moral Failure of Francis Collins
“…Francis Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has just announced his intention to step down at the end of 2021 after more than 12 years heading the agency. The accolades are already rolling in. Noted evangelical political commentator David French, for example, rushed to praise Collins as “a national treasure.”
But Collins’s real legacy is anything but praiseworthy, and the tendency of figures in the faith community to ignore his real record is far from admirable.
This year of all years should have made the truth about Francis Collins clear. Last month, documents were released suggesting that top National Institutes of Health (NIH) officials may have lied when they denied that the NIH had funded “gain of function” research in Wuhan, China, that could have resulted in a pathogen that could infect humans.
After reviewing the documents, Rutgers University biologist Richard Ebright had a blistering response: “The documents make it clear that assertions by the NIH Director, Francis Collins, and the NIAID Director, Anthony Fauci, that the NIH did not support gain-of-function research or potential pandemic pathogen enhancement… are untruthful.”
It was another blow to the reputation of Collins in a year when his agency has faced multiple scandals and controversies.
Among evangelical Christians and other people of faith in America, Collins has long been the equivalent of a rock star. But Collins’s days of glory as a non-partisan role model, especially for the faith community, may be numbered — and it’s not just because of the latest scandal over the origins of COVID-19.
In recent months, Collins’s agency has become embroiled in controversies over its funding of stomach-churning medical experiments involving body parts harvested from aborted babies. The disclosures about the experiments followed Collins’s repeal earlier this year of restrictions on the use of aborted fetal tissue in NIH-funded research.
Collins has also stirred controversy with his increasingly shrill attacks on unvaccinated Americans and his support for harsh mandatory vaccination policies that will require the firing of employees who choose not to be vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine…”
