Social media is a disgusting joke

Facebook will now shame pages that share misinformation repeatedly

“…Facebook is ready to call out pages that share misinformation repeatedly. The company is debuting a new label that says “This page shares misinformation repeatedly” when you like the page.

The firm will link to posts that have been debunked by authorized fact-checkers in the pop-up with more information…”

“authorized fact-checkers”

Thank goodness Facebook is here to protect us from ourselves.

“Fact-check”

We live in the age stupid. “Journalists” are apparently trained in college to be childish fools. Who knew?

Everybody knows.

Journalism is dead. It died from suicide.

Watch the nitwits. Do you get news and opinion from these people?

This is not the first time liberal hysteria raced around the media talking head world and turned out to be nonsense.

Entertainment as propaganda

‘Systemic Racism’ Smuggles Its Way Into 127 TV Episodes

This has been going for a long time. I find network television unwatchable because of all the Democrat/liberal issues of the day and talking points that are surreptitiously worked into storyline plots. Unfortunately, I believe many Americans don’t recognize the propagandistic content of network television. It falls below the threshold for conscious awareness for many people. Repetition makes it familiar. Longevity makes it accepted.

It is propaganda.

Forced insanity as government policy

Energy States Fight Back Against Bank Threats To Cut Off Oil, Gas, and Coal Companies

“…Kerry told banks to stop lending and helping out fossil fuel companies. Now, states that rely on those industries are fighting back.

Fifteen state treasurers told Climate Envoy John Kerry to stop pressuring banks and financial institutions to drop the states because if they do then the states will drop them.

The states include Texas, Oklahoma, and coal-heavy West Virginia.

“We are writing today to express our deep concern with recent reports that you, and other members of the Biden Administration, are privately pressuring U.S. banks and financial institutions to refuse to lend or invest in coal, oil, and natural gas companies, as part of a misguided strategy to eliminate the fossil fuel industry in our country,” wrote West Virginia Treasurer Riley Moore.

Moore cited the Politico article, “Kerry to Wall Street: Put your money behind your climate PR.” Sources reportedly told Politico about Kerry’s ambitions:

Kerry has pitched banks on creating a U.S. net-zero banking alliance following the climate commitments from six major Wall Street banks, according to two people familiar with the discussions. Citi, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs all set 2050 net-zero goals and JPMorgan Chase has said its lending would be aligned with the Paris agreement although Kerry and his team are pushing for more specific financial commitments as part of this effort.

A few people on Wall Street confirmed the push without providing details:

A Wall Street banker would not discuss specifics of what Kerry has asked, but confirmed that “the big U.S. banks are obviously discussing with his team directly.”

“It’s trying to figure out collectively whether there’s more that can be said,” the person said. An official at another Wall Street bank said Kerry made similar asks of that financial institution.

Daniel Firger, managing director of Great Circle Capital Advisors, said so far what banks have publicly pledged on climate is “vague,” and Kerry is now leading a “disambiguation” effort.

“No one knows what they mean yet, including Kerry’s team. But this is where the rubber hits the road,” said Firger, who has called for more climate financing from Wall Street. “It’s going to get quite fraught very quickly.”

The article came out in March. It looks like Firger made the correct prediction. Did Kerry think the states would sit back and take it?

“The coal, oil, and natural gas industries in our states are vital to our nation’s economy,” wrote Moore. “These industries provide jobs, health insurance, critical tax revenue, and quality of life to families across our country. As the Obama Administration’s War on Coal demonstrated, reckless attacks on the fossil fuel industry ultimately cut off paychecks for workers and take food off the table for hard-working middle-class families – the very people the Biden Administration claims to champion.”

Oklahoma relies on the natural gas industry. West Virginia without the coal industry?

“Therefore, we intend to put banks and financial institutions on notice of our position, as we urge them not give in to pressure from the Biden Administration to refuse to lend to or invest in coal, oil, and natural gas companies,” Moore continued. “As the chief financial officers of our respective states, we entrust banks and financial institutions with billions of our taxpayers’ dollars.

“It is only logical that we will give significant weight to the fact that an institution engaged in tactics that will harm the people whose money they are handling before entering into or extending any contract.”…”

John Kerry may be the worst politician in the U.S. at the moment. He is high on the list of worst ever.

Steven Hayward on the scam that passes for Democrat policy

WHAT HOMELESSNESS AND CLIMATE CHANGE HAVE IN COMMON

Steven Hayward:

“…You can find synoptic leftists who say that climate change requires solving every other social problem in human history, but there is in fact a lesson to be drawn between the explosion of homelessness over the last few years and the renewable energy mania proffered as a solution to climate change.

Let’s start with this NPR (NPR!!) report on the $1 billion Los Angeles is spending on homelessness, with no apparent effect on actually reducing homelessness:

The high public cost of LA’s first sanctioned campground — more than $2,600 per tent, per month — has advocates worried it will come at the expense of more permanent housing. [Emphasis added.]

What a minute—what? $2,600 per month, per tent?!?!

As the kids say, AYFKM!? Only government could spend more for tents than you’d have to pay for a rental apartment even in high-priced Los Angeles. You can shoplift ten tents from a store (without risk of prosecution in California right now) for that amount.

But let’s keep going with the NPR story:

On a recent afternoon, the site was nearly full. A row of port-a-potties stood along one side of the camp. The program also provides showers, three meals a day and 24-hour security. Campers get entered into the county’s database for matching unhoused people with social services and housing resources. . .

According to a report by the city administrative officer, the new East Hollywood campground costs approximately $2,663 per participant per month. That’s higher than what a typical one-bedroom apartment rents for in the city, according to the website RentCafe. While the per-tent cost covers services, meals, sanitation and staffing, some are concerned that the city is investing too much in short-term Band-Aids over long-term solutions.

I’d love to see a genuine audit of this homelessness spending to see how much the bureaucracy, consultants, administrators, and others in the “caring professions” chain of being skim off the top. When I read, two or three years ago, that Seattle’s “homeless policy coordinator” is paid close to $300,000 per year, it was easy to predict that not a single person would be brought out of homelessness, but that the ranks of the homeless would increase.

And the climate scam is just the same—huge sums of money in politically-driven “investments,” tax credits, and subsidies for energy sources that will do little or nothing to solve whatever climate problem we may actually have. Never mind the science; go ahead and concede catastrophe—in fact, the worse the climate problem, the more frivolous and corrupt the whole climate/green energy racket becomes. Just like the homelessness problem. The only real “compassion” is for the bank accounts of the elite “caring” class…”

Squatters take over Seattle home, police are forced to stand aside as they clear it out

“…Sammamish is a very upscale city east of Seattle where the price of homes can reach up to several million dollars. One of those homes recently was targeted by a group of squatters who appear to have been using it as a stash house. The scheme was discovered when someone working for the homeowner entered the home and found “12 guns, bulletproof vests, more than 15,000 fentanyl pills, heroin, meth, and more than $40,000 in cash.”

The worker called police who showed up to collect the drugs and the loot. As they were deciding what to do next, two people pulled up on a motorcycle. Neighbors identified them as the squatters who’d been living in the house. Police arrested them for burglary but, because this is Seattle, they were back on the street in a matter of days.

The squatters soon returned to the house and this time they brought friends. Police Chief Dan Pingrey had no choice but to stand by while they loaded up a U-haul with what they claimed were their belongings.

“After they were out of jail, we had a large group trying to get back into the house,” Pingrey said. “No one was supposed to be there. The homeowners were not allowing anyone to stay there.”

Taking the advice of local prosecutors and lawyers, Pingrey said law enforcement is limited in what they can do. His frustrations hit a boiling point when the squatters demanded to be allowed to take property inside the home with them. Pingrey said, legally, his hands were tied and officers conducted a “civil standby.”

Pictures taken by a neighbor show police vehicles lined up on the street with officers watching, as the squatters filled a U-Haul truck with items inside. Another picture shows a garage full of appliances, including an ATM.

“We were not allowed to go in there with them and had to allow them to take this property out,” Pingrey said. “The person who had been illegally living there (was able) to come in and get what they stated was their property.”

That’s right, there was an ATM in the garage. That’s a weird thing to have. Did anyone check to see where it came from? Did the squatters take it with them? Like so much else in this story, it’s not clear…”

“Antisemitic at their core”: Four House Dems blast progressive colleagues for rhetoric on Israel, Jews

“…We also reject comments from Members of Congress accusing Israel of being an “apartheid state” and committing “act[s] of terrorism.” These statements are antisemitic at their core and contribute to a climate that is hostile to many Jews. We must never forget that less than eighty years ago, within the lifetime of our parents and grandparents, six million people were murdered by the Nazis in the Holocaust because they were Jews. Israel has long provided the Jewish people with a homeland in which they can be safe after facing long centuries of persecution…”

Snowflake goes remote and relocates executive office from California to Bozeman, Montana

“…Snowflake, the cloud data analytics vendor that held the biggest U.S. software IPO ever last year, has become the latest tech company to jettison California.

In its earnings press release on Wednesday, Snowflake’s dateline showed up as “No-Headquarters/BOZEMAN, Mont.” As recently as May 3, when the company announced the date of its first-quarter earnings report, that same line said “SAN MATEO, Calif.”

Snowflake’s SEC filing on Wednesday showed an address in Bozeman for its executive office. The company explained why in a footnote:

“We are a Delaware corporation with a globally distributed workforce and no corporate headquarters. Under the Securities and Exchange Commission’s rules, we are required to designate a ‘principal executive office.’ For purposes of this report, we have designated our office in Bozeman, Montana as our principal executive office, as that is where our Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer are based.”

Snowflake will still have a large operation in Silicon Valley, and even went through a recent massive redesign of its San Mateo office to prepare for the eventual return of employees.

“While San Mateo continues to remain an important location for us, we do not have a single office that is at the center of Snowflake’s operations,” a spokesperson said in an e-mail.

The company’s move to withdraw its corporate headquarters from California follows a trend that started in the midst of the pandemic last year.

Palantir moved to Colorado. Oracle and Hewlett Packard Enterprise left for Texas. Numerous companies consolidated offices and pulled out of Bay Area leases, giving their employees the option to work from wherever they want. Companies have decamped for a combination of reasons, including California’s inflated cost of living, high taxes and an environment that’s increasingly seen as unfriendly to businesses…”
