Laurel Hubbard, a 43-year-old weightlifter from New Zealand, will compete against women at the Olympics this summer, becoming the first ever transgender athlete to compete in history of the Games.
Tracey Lambrechs, a former Olympic weightlifter who won a bronze medal for New Zealand in 2018, is pissed about it. “I’m quite disappointed for the female athlete who will lose out on that spot,” Lambrech told TVNZ. “We’re all about equality for women in sport, but right now that equality is being taken away from us.”
