Republican senators reportedly open to impeachment as of January 25, 2021 (report).
Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.)
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)
Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.)
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine)
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska)
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah)
Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.)
Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio)
Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska)
Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.)
Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.)
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho)
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.)
Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.)
Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.)
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.)
Rand Paul called their bluff, potentially exposing them to political liability by raising a point of order on the impeachment issue and forcing all 100 senators on the record through a vote. The list above was as of January 25. On January 26, when forced to vote, the list was reduced to five:
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah)
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine)
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska)
Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.)
Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.)
The Romney Five. The remaining turncoats, turned coat again and voted that the impeachment was unconstitutional. McConnell had been saying that the impeachment trial was inevitable a day or two prior to Paul’s point of order and sounding like he (McConnell) was a vote for impeachment. How embarrassing for the minority leader. Read about it here:
Can Rand Paul Save the Senate?
Are all Republican politicians cowards? Well not the Romney Five. They are just turncoats who should be voted out of office. The balance of these old worthies are gutless frauds. Just politicians, I guess, and pretty despicable. What this shows is that the Republican party of 2021 is Trump’s party. No other Republican even comes close. The old guard in the senate will have to suck it up and pretend they were always on Trump’s side. They have self-identified as turncoats, however, and we should remember them for it.
Congratulations to Senator Paul.
