Oakland School Board appears to make poor decision

Oakland school board votes to defund contract with police, cites disproportionate arrest of black students

Let’s do a thought experiment. What if 99% of the arrests were warranted based on the laws in effect in the local area and the rules and procedures of the local police department. Doesn’t that mean that black students were committing a disproportionate amount of arrestable offences? In this case wouldn’t the proper response from the school board be to implement some program perhaps including police classroom presentations to better educate black students about what is and what is not an arrestable offence combined with a program designed to improve parental involvement with students who may be experiencing difficulty?

God forbid. It must be a racist police force.

I wonder what the racial makeup of the local police force is? I wonder what the racial makeup of the local police and civilian leadership is? Are we allowed to ask those questions? Can you think of additional thought experiments relating to this data?

Do you think the school board considered this? Asking for a friend.
